Getting Trees

One of the toughest things about moving into a new development is the complete lack of trees anywhere.  I was able to do some real bargaining and landed 13 new trees that were spaded into the property.  The largest measured approximately 6" across the trunk and 15-18' tall.  We have a nice variety of floral (Kwanzan Cherry, Kousa Dogwood, Aristocrat Pear) and shade trees ( Zelcova Elm, Sycamore, Honeylocust, Red Oak and Sugar Maple) and the unique (Bald Cypress).  All of the trees were "spaded" from a local nursery.  The largest made a hole large enough for Geoff to stand in.

First, the hole is dug in the yard and the "plug" is taken to where the trees are dug from to fill in another hole.

Here's the size of the hole for the largest trees.

Once at the nursery, the tree is dug out.  Here's the Kwanzan Cherry being removed.

Back at our place, the new tree is lowered into the previously dug hole.

Viola!  Instant trees.  Since this is all done in the fall when the trees are dormant, I haven't even seen what they look like yet.
