Brey-Krause Rollbar Extension Most Boxster Owners are not short enought to pass the "broomstick test" required by most PCA regions for Drivers Ed. Simply, with your helmet on and sitting in a "normal" driving position, a broomstick is placed on the top of the windshield frame and the top of the rollbar and you must be below it. Now, so far, no clubs that I have done Driver's Ed at have actually tested for compliance, but having the extended rollbar from Brey-Krause installed has allowed me to squeak by. One thing to note, you must remove the factory rollbar padding to install the bar. I have chosen to make it permanent and not take it on/off the car before/after Driver's Ed events.
Some other modifications that you have to make: 1) If you have the factory windstop option, the bottom center anchor is part of the padding. It must be cut off and glued to the rollbar. 2) I have chosen to use an adhesive caulk to fasten some plastic grommets into the holes left from removing the padding. I left the center two open because I didn't buy enough the first time :-( 3) If you have the screen material in the hoops, you need to make a cutout for the BK bar. This is where the clip is so you will have to fasten them back in by some other means. I chose black plastic tie-wrap material. |
