Rounds 4 and 5 - Summit Point - NASA Hyperfest The NASA "Hyperfest" is an event designed to attract the younger, import crowd to the track. With car stereo competitions, drifting, a "roll-over" (Yes, people actually bring cars with the intention of rolling them), and other odds and ends, it's at least a way to get some spectators out to the track. After such a disappointing Round 2-3 (overheated and blew the head gasket), I was looking to score some major points this weekend.
The weather was hot but at least it didn't rain, something that we've had plenty of this summer. Saturday, I qualified 2nd for the first race - very promising! However, I was skunked on the start and passed by Russ Franklin and Joe Hrymack. Turns out, wasn't such a bad thing. Russ got into Brian Zahlner, spinning him. I avoided it but 4 other cars wound up as casualties. I managed to re-pass Joe for 2nd just before the double-yellow came out. We followed the pace car for about 10 laps while the carnage was cleaned up. I caught Russ off guard on the restart and was able to put some distance on him. On the white flag lap, Russ got close and when we hit some lapped traffic and I got the short end of the stick as Russ was able to pass me. However, just past the checker, the race was red flagged for a car-fire (like we didn't have enough issues). As it turns out, the last lap was thrown out since all cars didn't get the checker, and I would up with a 1st! More about Sunday's race come...
